Limerick are the visitors this Sunday to Baltinglass and Gavin Wynne has went with the same starting 15 that overcame Derry in the Lidl Ladies National Football League Division 4 opener.
The Wicklow squad is a great mix of youth and experience with many of our very talented Minor side having made their step up to senior ranks in 2023 and they will have plenty of experience alongside them making up the backbone of the starting 15.
St Patrick’s Ellen Griffin has successfully navigated her Senior inter county debut and she was desperately unlucky not to have left Owenbeg with a clean sheet but she will hopefully get that Sunday as she lines out in the number 1 jersey once again.
The hugely experienced team Captain SJ Winders will lead the fullback line with Sarah Evans and Tinahely’s Roisin Byrne on her flank who are two very bright prospects and both showed very well up in Owenbeg.
The centre back line is anchored by St Pats Lucy Dunne who will be pivotal at centre back and she has plenty of pace to her left and right with Tinahely’s Aimee Maher and Annacurra’s Laci Jane Shannon in the wing back berths.
The power running of Tinahely’s Aoife Gorman and AGB’s Lizzie Bourke will drive Wicklow from the middle once again and their direct running styles caused Derry major headaches and could trouble any teams midfield pairing.
The half forward line has the Wicklow Club player of 2022 Sarah Delahunt who has carried that form into 2023 and Blessington’s dynamic Niamh Cullen should carry the game to Limerick from centre forward with Tinahely’s young ace Eimear O Sullivan poised to make another big impression from wing forward after a very impressive debut against the Oakleaf county.
The full forward line is stacked with dangerous attackers with two our most prolific scorers to ever don the Wicklow jersey in the inside line. Meadhbh Deeney with 21-77 and Clodagh Fox with 9-39 rank at Number 3 & Number 5 respectively in the Wicklow Ladies Footballers Top Scorers since we began recording our stats and they have the lightning pace of Aobha Harmon alongside them with the Tinahely youngster a sure bet to follow in their scoring footsteps.
There’s plenty of scoring threat on the Wicklow bench too with our highest ever scoring player Marie Kealy a real ace to call on and the hugely experienced Laurie Ahern who ranks 6th amongst Wicklow scorers another name who Limerick will be very familiar with.
There’s many more very exciting prospects among the Wicklow substitutes and many will have benefited from game time against Derry and will have plenty to bring to the table if called upon.

A win on Sunday would really put Wicklow in a solid position alongside the groups frontrunners Leitrim but Limerick will be a serious challenge and although we have enjoyed success against the Treaty Ladies in recent meetings, the challenge they will bring to Baltinglass will be significant and a home victory would be a major statement from our youthful squad.
