Wicklow Hurlers Seeking League Glory with Armagh Hiding
The Wicklow Hurlers were in rampant form today putting up a score of 4-20 against Armagh with a whirlwind first half which saw them hit Armagh for 3 goals and it was almost all over bar the shouting by half time.
Any slim hopes the Orchard Thieves had of getting anything from this game was snuffed out early in the second half with an Anthony Byrne goal and a Bob Fitzgerald peno save making it a fight back even the fighting men from Crossmaglen wouldn’t tackle. A solid Wicklow rearguard set up a hard border which caused the Orchard men all kinds of problems and they pretty much decommissioned the Armagh attack. With Wicklow’s midfield completely cutting off the Armagh fuel supply and only the odd well laundered supply getting through sporadically, Armagh struggled. Up front Wicklow’s forwards were sniping scores from all angles and were ambushing hapless Armagh defenders trying to clear their lines on every occasion. Wicklow went on to run out comfortable winners on a score line of 4-20 to 1-12 but credit to a gallant Armagh team who’s day will come.
