Unfortunately the clash between Tinahely and Rathnew in the Division 1 League opener did not finish this morning. Referee Pat Dunne called a halt to proceedings after the opening exchange’s were not what you’d term total football with the game at boiling point.
Rathnews twitter account referenced alleged racial abuse as a possible reason for the game coming to an abrupt halt mid ways though the first half, a claim that was refuted by other social media users.
Regardless of what is said, the referees report will be key to the outcome of this and it’s a shame to see any game abandoned, especially with it being the very first game of the year for the two sides involved. The CCC will now be called to action once the referees report is submitted and it’s important that games getting to a stage where they need to be abandoned is gone from Wicklow GAA and the CCC must come off the fence and sort out our game before parents who bring their kids to GAA games and teams in County Wicklow decide enough is enough.
