Oisin McConville Names His First Wicklow Squad To Face Dublin

Oisin McConville has given youth its chance with his first 26 man selection to face the reigning O Byrne Cup Champions Dublin in tonights match under lights in Baltinglass.
9 of the starting team named to face Offaly in last years Tailteann Cup clash start on tonight’s team sheet but it will be interesting to see if the team named is unchanged by the 8pm throw in.

Baltinglass Karl Furlong and Jack Kirwan are two young prospects to get the nod with Barndarrigs Jacques McCall and Avondales Cathal Baker another two men given the opportunity to show their mettle against strong opposition and the Gers Tom Maher will be primed for his half back role.

Senior County Finalists Baltinglass have three starters, Mark Jackson, Karl Furlong and Jack Kirwan with  two more of their young stars, Paddy Whelan and Adam McHugh named on the bench while Tommy Kelly the top scorer in the Wicklow Senior Footbal Championship takes his place amongst the substitute’s alongside his St Pats club mates Shane Doyle, Simon Bouchier and County Stalwart Dean Healy. Dunlavin are well represented with Tom Moran and Eoin Murtagh in the starting 15 as are Barndarrig who have Malachy Stone & Jack Mac proudly repping for the Kilmacurragh men.

Tom Maher and JP Hurley ensure continued strong representation for AGB on the Wicklow Senior Team as do Zach Cullen and Cathal Baker who keep the Dales strongly represented. Kiltegans Padraig O Toole and Ballymanus Mark Kenny are their clubs lone reps and are two seasoned campaigners for Wicklow while it’s great to see two of the county’s most promising young attackers back in the Wicklow jerseys as Blesso’s Kevin Quinn and Tinahely’s Eoin Darcy start in the corner forward roles.

Wicklow Intermediate champions Eire Og Have two of their stars named on the bench in the form of Joe Prendergast and Fintan O Shea with Tinahely Rathnew and Blessington represented by Cillian McDonald, Eddie Doyle and Craig Maguire respectively.

One surprise is that no An Tochar players feature in the match day squad after their young side enjoyed a strong debut campaign in Senior ranks.

Tonight will be a great chance to give players game time against strong opposition and to blood players for the year ahead and it should be a great occasion.
