Farewell To One Of The Greatest – Wicklow Brave Sadly Dies After Final Fence Fall At American Grand National

Whether you follow the sport of horse racing avidly or just throw a few euro on the Grand National or Cheltenham you’ll have no doubt heard about or maybe even put a few quid on the wonderful Wicklow Brave and if you did more often than not you would have been a few quid richer as the wonderful ten year old has won more than a few massive races and was on course to add the American Grand National to the long list of successes but tragically came down at the final fence when leading and fractured his right shoulder and sadly had to be put down.

A brilliant career began with Wicklow Brave taking his place in a Punchestown bumper in 2013 and a unbelievably successful followed which saw him win a Grade 1 over hurdles at the Punchestown Festival, the 2016 Irish St. Leger on the flat and a win at the Cheltenham Festival, and only this summer he tackled fences for the first time and was three wins from three outings over the bigger obstacles.

Taking in over a million euro in prize money for his connections, he looked on course to win the American Grand National and collect another huge pot until his fatal fall at the last fence. As good as they come and a massive loss to racing.
