The Wicklow minors travelled to Geashill in Co Offaly on Saturday to take on a strong home side in wet and blustery conditions. Playing in too a strong wind in the first half Wicklow settled early with a well take goal by Eoin Doyle followed quickly with a point from the Rathnew man. The Wicklow full back line of Daniel Healy Tom Moran and Jordan Brady we’re dominating there positions and with the midfield partnership of Sean Coffey and Arun Daly Danne controlling the middle section Wicklow would extend there lead with goals from Matthew Ging and Eoin O’Neill while the lively Joe Prendergast popped over a beautiful point in between two points for Offaly. Offaly were struggling to find scores with the Wicklow half back line of Luka Harney Adam Hadden and Bradley Hickey breaking down attack after attack with some tenacious defending. Tommy Keogh and Cillian McDonald were showing hugh energy all over the field to have Wicklow looking comfortable going into half time on a score line of 3-2 to 0-2
Offaly weren’t to throw in the towel though and came storming back into the game with a purple patch in the first fifteen minutes of the second half reeling off six unanswered points to leave it a three point game.
With the heavy conditions taking there toll Wicklow would show there strength in dept bringing on Cian Hynes Neil Browne Thade Shanahan Fionn OSullivan and Luke OBrien into defence. Daniel Cooney came into midfield while Mikey ORourke Joe Mills Jack Kirwan and Luke Dorgan joined the attack. These changes gave Wicklow the energy they were missing in the first fifteen minutes of the second half as they would go on to reel off six unanswered points of there own with Mikey ORourke and Luke Dorgan hitting two each and Cillian McDonald and Jack Kirwan with one apiece. Offaly continued to push hard and looked certain to score a goal only for Wicklow keeper Andy Nolan pulling off a wonderful save to deny them. Final score line 3-8 to 0-8
Also travelling with the Wicklow squad today were the injured Jack Sargent, Keith Burke, Sam Kearney, Shane Daly, Alan Miley, Roy Byrne and Daniel Hedderman.
