There will be more Wicklow men involved than you might think when Mayo and Wicklow meet in tomorrow’s crunch Allianz National Hurling League Division 2A clash in the Connacht Centre of Excellence in Bekan. Bray man Corey Scahill has been one of Mayo’s key players over the last number of years after moving to the wild west with his family many years ago and unfortunately for Corey and fortunately for us Wicklow fans he will miss tomorrow’s clash due to injury. We got his thoughts on how tomorrow’s game will go:

Corey Scahill – Match Preview
This is a huge game for both sides seeking to maintain their 2A league status for next year and it will be huge for both sides for their championship preparations this year. As both sides have already lost their first couple of games this game is one that will effectively be a relegation playoff.

Both teams will be familiar with one another though we never met last year. In years gone by we usually met once if not twice a year. There was never much between the teams during my career so far, I’d say the share of victory’s in the last five/six years is slightly in favour of Wicklow although we always seemed to get victories in the higher stakes games, so in this sense you could say it was fairly even.

As to my verdict on the outcome of the game I think both teams are immensely hard working teams and are where they are now (division 2A) as a result of this. I think it will come down to the wire with Mayo winning by maybe a point or two in the end.

Mayo have more than just Corey Scahill with strong links to the Garden County as Mayo goalkeeper Bobby Douglas father is a Newtown man.
