Callum Clarke & Michael Cash Are Rathnew Boxing Clubs Two Newest Leinster Champions

Rathnew Boxers Crowned Leinster Champs

Rathnew Boxing Club members Micahel Cash and Callum Clarke were today both crowned Leinster Boxing champions as they both secured gold in their respective weight categories and it is a massive achievement for these two young men and there relatively new club.

Michael Cash 38.5kg Leinster Champion

Michael Cash boxed Johnny Cash from Paulstown, Kilkenny in the boys 38.5kg final winning on a 3-2 split decision, which was by all accounts a strange result as all in attendance thought he definitely won all 3 rounds. Michael got a straight final in this competition which is rare as only 2 fighters were in his weight category but you can only beat what’s in front of you and that’s exactly what Michale did to be crowned Leinster Champ.

Callum Clarke 41.5kg Leinster Champion

The main man Callum Clarke had a very hard group having to win his quarters 4-1 against a good young lad from Arklow. He then won his semi yesterday against a very good lad from Ferns in Mexico. Callum went up this morning and weighed in and his opponent missed the weight by a kilo so Callum got the walkover which was disappointing but Callum would have beat him either way!

All Irelands

The two lads weigh in Thursday for the All Ireland’s and we wish them all the best.

Rathnew Boxing Club

Rathnew Boxing Club is a fantastic club that offers plenty to the local community around Rathnew and Wicklow Town and they have just moved the club last week to the Assembly Hall which provides them a fantastic location from which to operate. They have a great bunch of coaches who all put the hard work in every week and they will be there for 5 sometimes even 6 days a week. Nicky Sinnott, Paul White, April Dickenson, Stephen Goucher and Johno “Big Jem” Kearney who’s been the rock of the club but is out for 6 months after a back operation, are the coaches and people who are behind the success story that is Rathnew Boxing Club. All the club wishes Johno a speedy recovery. Although Rathnew Boxing Club is a small enough club, it has been making great strides since the club moved to the town. 5 Leinsters in 6 or 7 months and one of their boxers has recently turned pro and made his debut two weeks ago winning in style. Just next week they have one of their most talented boxers up for her Leinsters! Rathnew Boxing Club had four fighters entered in this Leinster Competition with Callum and Micheal getting their titles but Leon Coster and Alex Sinnott both were just touched off in close fights and are two very promising fighters for the future.
