Bray Emmets John Henderson Named Wicklow Senior Hurling Captain For 2023

Congratulations to Bray Emmets John Henderson who has been bestowed the honour of captaining the Wicklow Senior Hurlers by Casey O Brien and his management team for the 2023 campaign. John will be ably assisted by a capable lieutenant in the form of Glenealy’s Sam O Dowd who will be the teams Vice Captain.

A talented dual star, Henderson has been a mainstay of both Wicklow and Bray Emmets and he will lead the county from the heart of the defence in the Allianz League campaign. John is one we are privileged to have wear the blue & gold of Wicklow with his father John Snr being one of the foremost hurlers of his generation as he starred for Kilkenny in his iconic helmet from the fullback line and a man that should be on the shortlist for a Laochra Gael.

Kilkenny’s loss has been our gain though with Bray Emmets hurling transformed with John Henderson Seniors arrival in the North East and the next generation is following strongly in his footsteps for both Bray Emmets and the Wicklow County team.

Saturday will see John get his first opportunity of the year to captain his County and he couldn’t have asked for a more competitive encounter as Wicklow face near long time foes Meath on Saturday in Pairc Tailteann in the Allianz League Division 2B opener which will be a truly special occasion for a man who has given huge service to club and county as it will for young Glenealy man Sam O Dowd who has shown huge promise and being selected as Vice Captain further indicates just how highly regarded Sam is to both the squad and management team and he has a promising career ahead.

We wish John, Sam and the lads the very best on Saturday and hopefully we can open with a win on the road over the Royals.
