We spoke to Wicklow Ladies Football Manager James Kelly after Wicklow booked a Leinster Semi Final date with Meath after a Marie Kealy goal late in the game turned the contest in the Garden County’s favour. He gave us his thoughts on the game and the key moments
The Wicklow Lineup
Look it was a massive test of our metal and we showed we are up for a fight. It wasn’t our most complete performance but we have shown that we have an excellent never say die attitude.
Massive turning point was obviously our second goal, a great ball by Meadhbh and what a fetch by Marie. She really came in and showed us why she should be starting. It’s great to see the strength and quality we have within this panel. And you look at it, losing Jess Byrne at half time while also having Lorna in the bin was not ideal but we had the panel to deal with it and seeing Aimee Maher on her championship debut play at wing back and centre back is testament to her great qualities.
We have massive areas to improve and lift for the next day but no doubt if any group is up for that it’s this group.
He also spoke about the great support for Wicklow and in particular some of our up and coming stars.
It was great to have a great young support from our u13s there, to see the number of them rush onto the field to get pics and chat with our players put a smile on my face today. There is excellent work going on and to know over the past few weeks 14 of our panel have trained these girls shows the best knowledge is being instilled in these players for the future
