Tributes Paid To Bobby Messitt The Innocent Victim Of Bray Shooting

Tributes have been paid to the innocent victim of this mornings shooting, Bobby Messitt who’s life was cruelly taken away in the most evil and reckless way. Bobby was a proud Kilmacanogue and Glencormac United man who was much loved by the people who knew him and the people across County Wicklow who had the pleasure of playing against him or playing a round of Golf with him.

The reckless taking of innocent life has got to stop, how can we live in a country where opening the door of a place where you go to exercise leads to you being the innocent victim of these scumbags. How can the reckless taking of innocent life be accepted? Is life that cheap to these people that they can callously take innocent life and ruin the lives of people who actually contribute to society and live decent honest lives like Bobby did.

The high esteem that his community held Bobby in, can be seen reflected in the posts and comments from those who knew him best with Cormac Mulligan paying tribute to Bobby on Glencormac Uniteds Facebook page along with Trevor Carr who captured the gentleman that Bobby was in his tribute. Our condolences go to his family and friends at this very sad time and may he rest in peace.

Colm Mullligan to Glencormac United:

Farewell “Dazzler”
Sadly, you will all have heard by now on social media and TV3 News at 5-30 of the tragic news of the loss of our beloved Bobby “Dazzler” Messitt. Bobby was an innocent victim in the shooting this morning at Bray Boxing Club and was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Words here cannot convey how heartbroken everyone of us is at The Glens to lose one the most dedicated clubmen anyone could have but our prayers and hearts really go out to Natalie, Jackie, Garry, Bobby Jnr, Demi-leigh, Alex, brothers Jimmy & Glen, Sister Paula, Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews and all the extended families at this sad time. Perhaps you could share a memory or picture here (and he left us with plenty) of great times spent with “Our Bob” ! I recall having the honour to present him with the Dean Norgrove Memorial Trophy as Man of the Match in Dec 2016. Bobby loved the late Deano and was thrilled to win the award but I am sure you have many yourselves. The chanting of the Simon Mignolet Song when Liverpool beat Man Utd, the chunk taken out of Ian Devlins Leg in a so called CHARITY MATCH, the happy Golf Pictures with so many friends. Bobby mate, we were so proud to have you as a friend these past 50 years, Rest in Peace “Oul Pal “

Golf , soccer , following Liverpool, joint managers of the glens, few pints and banter. Bob you were brilliant at them…
