Rathnew v Dunlavin

The clash of the Top 2 Rathnew & Dunlavin will see the winner heading for the knockout stage while the losing team will need to ensure they can take points in the last group game to also head for the knockout stages. Rathnew have the edge with home advantage and they took victory when the sides met in the league final so the balance seems slightly tipped towards a Rathnew win but this is Championship and Dunlavin will come to the Merrymeetings with victory on their minds!

AGB v Baltinglass

These two will feel they deserved to get so much more in their respective opening games and now find themselves in a must win scenario to rescue their Championship hopes. The Gers registered a whopping 1-16 away from home and still did not come away with a victory and Baltinglass will be acutely aware of the attacking threat that the southeast men possess. Baltinglass will feel they have more than enough to be a major force in this championship and they pushed a much fancied Rathnew side all the way but gallantly fell to a two point defeat. This game is Championship proper and could well be the game of the night

Enniskerry v Carnew Emmets

Enniskerry have been one of the most consistent sides in the Junior B Football Championship and they are never far from the business end having had way more than their fair share of heartbreak. Tonight they face a game for the Championship survival as they welcome Carnew Emmets to Kilgarron in a must win game for the hosts. Carnew opened with a fantastic victory at home to a very good Newtown side with Graham Keogh on fire for the Deep South outfit and they can secure passage to the knockout stage with victory and even a defeat is not catastrophic but would put huge pressure on. Enniskerry in Gavin Barton have an outstanding talisman and these two could have a big say in tonight’s result.

Newtown v Avoca

Newtown face the daunting prospect of having to take victory over last year’s beaten finalists Avoca to save their season but there is plenty of reason for optimism given the display they produced on the long trip to Carnew in the opening round where they were just pipped. Avoca can secure safe passage for a  very difficult group with a road win after finding late resolve to shake off the teak tough Enniskerry in their opener in Rooster Park. Being last year’s finalists, a great division 3 campaign and their opening win over a strong Enniskerry side puts them as one of the Championship favourites and a win tonight would really cement that thinking.

Kiltegan v Bray Emmets

The West truly awoke in the Junior B Football Championship as Kiltegan produced a serious display on the road in Roundwood as they took a 5 point win over An Tochar in their opener with last year’s County Minor Andy Foley bagging 1-05 of their 1-11 and proving a serious handful. Bray Emmets were unable to overcome the challenge of Tinahely in their opener and the loss of former Wicklow intercounty Star Oisin O hAnnaidh to injury was a big blow. There is plenty of talent within the Bray ranks though and they head on the long trip west knowing its win or bust.

Tinahely v An Tochar

Tinahely are a club on the up and the second of their 3 adult sides is loaded with very talented student ballers and some even more talented mature students and they were in devastating form in the opener accounting for the Bray Emmets challenge on the road to set themselves a perch on top of Group 3. An Tochar have a mammoth task as they head to Tinahely knowing a win is a must after falling to Kiltegan in their opener. There is plenty of talent and experience in their ranks and they will call on every ounce of that if they are to pull of the result of the night and keep their championship alive.

Knockananna v Newcastle

The clash of the night on paper sees the two sides who made the drop from Junior A last year face off. It’s very much a case of contrasting fortunes for two very proud clubs who have battled with low numbers but to their credit have continuously managed to field and this year is no different. Knockananna sit at the summit and hold all the cards tonight as they have home advantage and a very large score difference after accounting for past Junior C Champions Ashford in clinical fashion and have Championship Top Scorer Kevin Tyrrell in their ranks. Newcastle will be well aware of the mammoth task they face out west but despite a very disappointing opening defeat to a very exciting Avondale outfit they will throw all but the kitchen sink at Knockananna tonight. In Ryan Heffernan they have a scoring machine as he bagged 0-09 against the Dales and he will look to help fire his side to a much needed victory.

Avondale v Ashford

Already the story of the Senior Football Championship, Avondale have been making headlines in this grade as they managed to take apart a fancied Newcastle side on the road bagging 5 goals. Shane Farrar bagged 2-05 to be joint top scorer in this championship and along with a host of former and future senior star they are shaping like a side who could have a major say in the cups destination. Ashford find themselves in an ultimate group of death and the task facing them tonight is pure David and Goliath stuff but one trait that the Black & Amber possess in abundance is resilience. They will need every bit of that resilience if they are to save their season and the task is made all the more difficult given the number of their Junior C winning team they are now without.
