PROMOTION

Congratulations to Avondale who have secured promotion to Division 1 Football for 2020 with two games to spare. The only team that can match their 18 points total are Newtown who have relished life back in this division after last year’s promotion but they will have to win their remaining games to secure their passage to Wicklow Footballs Top Tier.

Four clubs still have a chance of securing second place and joining Avondale in promotion:

NEWTOWN

Newtown are in total control of their destiny as they can reach 18 points if they can win their last two games which would secure second spot and promotion. Easier said than done as Kilmac are playing for league survival and Bray Emmets are a fellow promotion chaser.

BRAY EMMETS

Although the lowest currently ranked side Bray Emmets have two games remaining that if they win both, they could take second place with 17 points as they can eliminate Newtown from the hunt by beating them in the last game.

EIRE OG

Currently in the promotion hot seat on 15 points Eire Og can set the clubhouse lead with an away win over relegated Annacurra. This will not be enough if Newtown can win both their remaining games. They need both Bray & Newtown to suffer a defeat each and rely on score difference in a 3 way points tie as Bray have head to head advantage over them if the two sides were to end up tied on 17 points.

DUNLAVIN

5 losses on the bounce has almost completely derailed the Dunlavin promotion charge after a bright start to the campaign. The still sit one place outside the promotion on 14 points with one game to play against promotion hunting Bray Emmets. A 16 points total may not be enough but if they can beat Bray they have a slim hope of getting to Top Tier Football in 2020 but a lot of things will have to go their way for that to happen. Beating Bray is a must to keep the flames of hope burning.

RELEGATION

At the other end of the table Annacurra’s defeat to Bray Emmets extinguished their survival hopes and they will be back in Division 2 for 2020 as they cannot now catch Carnew Emmets who lie in 6th place.

CARNEW EMMETS

Carnew hold their destiny in their hands as they need to take a point from their final game with Avondale who need a win for their own promotion charge to ensure that Kilmacanogue cannot reel them in to avoid relegation to Division 2. The equation is simple – Win or Draw to Survive. The permutations if they fail to take at least a point and Kilmacanogue secure a win are quite complex as you will read below

KILMACANOGUE

Their faith is not in their hands but there is still hope. A Kilmacanogue win over Newtown would send them to 11 points which would leave them on the same points as Carnew if Carnew were to fail to take any points from their final game which is a tricky tie with table toppers Avondale. If this happened both teams would have 11 points and have each won a game against each other so head to head won’t separate them so score difference will be called upon and as it stands Carnew have the edge with -17 difference and Kilmac with -28. Here’s where it could get really interesting as if Kilmac were to record a 5 point win in their game and Carnew suffered a 6 point loss then the teams would be tied on: Points, Head-to-Head and Score Difference so barring a walkover in the league it would go to score aggregate between the two sides which Kilmac lead 6-24 to 4-20 over Carnew and ensure Kilmac survive and Carnew drop back to Division 2 after last year’s promotion!
