Joule Park Aughrim
Intermediate Hurling Championship
Match Preview – Ian Heffernan
Avondale head to Aughrim today in a much better position than this time 12 months ago, although we have dropped down to Intermediate ranks we clearly feel this decision has benefited our lads and the proof is in the pudding.
All in all the lads have prepared as well as they possibly could , so as the saying goes “ You get out of it what you put into it” and hopefully that will be the case today.
Manager – Emmet O’Sullivan
Selectors – Seamus O’Shaughnessy, Leonard Byrne
At present we have an underage academy which is being pushed really hard by Liam Kelly among others. We have underage teams all to minor where we are actually combined with Arklow Rocks (Team name Avondale Parnell’s) this team lost to Carnew after a replay in the minor final so we are happy that the work done at underage is bearing fruit. Some name to watch for the future, Shane Browne, Zach Cullen, Torna Mulcroney… These three guys are definitely future senior stars.
Cmon Da Dales!!
Arklow Rock Parnells
Match Preview – Bryan O Leary
As it goes our intermediate team can consider themselves to have had a good year winning our last 5 games on the trot and reaching this year’s county final. Look if we were to be honest Avondale will probably be a bridge too far for us at the moment they’ve hurled exceptionally all year and i’m sure Sunday will be no different. We will go there as huge underdogs i’d say in the country never mind the county. We will go there and try our hardest to give them some sort of game for our supporters who will be there in their droves and that to us will mean the world that we don’t disappoint them. For our young lads to get that sense of occasion and atmosphere will be a big plus for us and something we hope they get used to in the coming years.
As the gaffer, Sean pierce tells us “its a game of hurling nothing else”.
Manager – Sean Pierce
Selectors – John Sommers, Jason Redmond, Kevin “Cheeks” O Reilly
Sean is originally a cute Cork man who played with us a couple of years ago and has taken to management like a duck to water, he’s put in a massive shift this year and we are greatful he has got us to County Final day, a great occasion no matter what and a just reward for his efforts. He is assisted by John Sommers, Jayo Redmond and lest not forget Kevin “cheeks” O’Reilly (who has always a few words of wisdom at training, we will leave that there).
We also look forward to the u17 replay v Carnew, this one will be too close to call after the epic battle last time round, massive work put in here by Joe Connors and crew, lets hope history repeats itself for Joe as it was 25 years ago he himself won a minor title against the same opposition, fingers, knees, toes crossed for that one.
The club in general is developing well, from u6 up, its a sight to behold on Saturdays to see the field full of boys and girls with Philip Byrne and his team overseeing things here.
The club will be in no less than 7 county finals this year, hurling and camogie, with 3 already won, u11 boys u12 and u14 girls and with two more big ones this weekend.
As big Mylie Fortune says in tough times
“keep the faith” and thats exactly what we will do no matter what way results go, we play and teach the best and fastest field game in the world because we love it.
